Meerkat ReproductionMeerkats become sexually mature at about 1 year of age. When meerkats breed, the female will initially refuse the male. Gestation takes 75 days and 2-4 cubs are born. Cubs are blind and hairless and will stay in the burrow until they are 2-4 months old. Young males will often leave to start their own colonies.
